BUC News

Ash Wednesday
Join us for worship on Wednesday 17th February at 7:30pm in the garden as we begin the season of Lent.  This service will not be live-streamed.

Ordination of Yoo Mi Park
The Ordination of Yoo Mi Park will take place on Friday 19th February, 7:30pm at Brunswick UC.  We are so delighted to be hosting this special event for Yoo Mi.  Yoo Mi provided pastoral care supply ministry while Ian was offering supply ministry in Bairnsdale last year.  The service will be live streamed on our BUC YouTube Channel,

Allyship and Anti-Racism
Come along to our Allyship and Anti-Racism training in February! Love Makes A Way and BUC would like to invite you to attend our upcoming anti-racism/allyship training hosted by Democracy in Colour (please see attached for details). This training is made up of two sessions (both of which must be attended), which will occur on the following dates via Zoom: – Saturday 20th February from 1:30pm, Thursday 25th February from 6pm,  This is a valuable opportunity for us to develop our understanding of racism, to feel better equipped to tackle racial injustice in our personal lives, and to look at practical ways in which we as a community can ingrain active anti-racism/racial justice into our cultures and structures. Book here (note that this one booking covers both sessions):
Please note that this is a self-funded endeavour and therefore includes a paid ticket, but also that we have included multiple pricing options (including $0) to accommodate all financial situations. Please choose whichever option feels most appropriate for you. And finally – I’m sure this goes without saying, however, to ensure the integrity of learning and safety in the space we have been asked to convey that the first workshop (‘101’) is a prerequisite to the second workshop, and to encourage all people to enter with an open mind keen for learning, regardless of past training/experience. Numbers are limited, so book quickly to secure a place! Feel free to get in touch with Abi (abigailrosebb@gmail.com) if you have any questions, and we hope to see you there!

“Walking Together” Facebook group – open invitation
Please visit, and consider joining, the BUC “Walking Together” Facebook group. (As in “Walking together as First and Second Peoples”, from the UCA Vic-Tas mission statement.)
You don’t need to be a member of the group that meets under the same name in order to join the FB group. The purpose of the FB group is to widen the circle of conversation & reflection, and to be an ongoing forum for news, announcements and insights that are relevant to our discipleship alongside Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.
See you there!  https://www.facebook.com/groups/304899744273955

Holy Week Worship planning

ARRCC and Sacred People, Sacred Earth
On Friday 11th March, Brunswick UC will join faith communities around the world for the biggest-ever multi-faith Day of Action on the climate crisis called Sacred People, Sacred Earth.  Read the post for all the details.

BUC Student House – rooms available
There are two vacancies in our student house program.  Please pass this news on to any young people attending tertiary studies in 2021.

Meditation
Meditation is a way of paying attention, and taking the focus away from ourselves and our internal ‘chatter’ and distractions. It can become a practice which can mirror our whole life and give us the freedom to live life in its fullness.
The group is continuing to meet via a WhatsApp group on Tuesday and Thursday at 9 am.  Contact Richard Arnold on 0407796429 to join the WhatsApp group.

Olive Pesto News

Hello Crafters and Supporters!
We are still taking things cautiously, and will not yet re-open the BUC Olive Pesto Saturday morning monthly F2F (face-to-face, in person) sessions in the Brunswick UC Youth Hall.
Hey, we still want to keep in touch! Consider maintaining contact with the group or the church, with these opportunities:

  • Become a member of, and participate in, the Brunswick UC Olive Pesto Facebook(FB) Group page. It has been going many months, and has members far and wide
  • Participate in the Zoom-based “Knit and Natter” sessions in the late afternoons, one or two afternoons a week. Info is on the FB page.
  • Participate in other Brunswick UC F2F gatherings, where extensive COVID-related protocols have been set-up, such as Sunday Worship, Olive Way and Olive Arts. There are also worship BUC services on YouTube.
  • Take your knitting/crochet, a mask and a chair (and maybe a thermos and a snack) to an outside event, such as the protests outside the Park Hotel in Carlton, where many asylum seekers are still being held in detention. If you want to know someone there from Olive Pesto, check with Leanne Salau (address in the “to” field of this email), who is holding vigil there for long hours and frequently. Your presence makes a difference.
Looking forward to the time we can meet again in the light bright sunny Youth Hall at Brunswick Uniting Church.
