Worship, Day of Mourning 2022

On 30th January, Day of Mourning, our worship gave expression to our commitment to truth-telling, justice, healing on the Sunday after January 26th, Invasion Day, a Day of Mourning. Some of the resources in this service were taken from Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress (UAICC) and the Common Grace movement.

We focussed on the meaning of January 26 a day of mourning for First Nations Peoples.  We reflected on the truth of our shared history and lifted up to God our prayers for our nation, First Peoples and later comers. We listened to First People’s voices, celebrated their ongoing culture, and reflected together on the effects of invasion, colonisation and violent dispossession, asking for God to truly help us to ‘return’, to repent & make restitution.
