Sunday Worship 24/3, Palm Sunday

Cath James welcomed us to worship on 24th March.   During the five Sundays of Lent  we followed Jesus along the path to the cross through Mark’s gospel.  Today we joined him riding a donkey to the shouts of Hosanna.

We welcomed members of the Baptist and Salvation Army churches joining us for worship and began our service within the worship space and then met our other ecumenical neighbours on the steps.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Francesca the donkey.   This year we welcomed Murphy who led us on an ecumenical Palm Sunday walk around the local streets before participating in a shared liturgy at Christ Church Anglican.

Prayers of  Confession

Watch or 12:19

As we offer these prayers, I’ll ask those who have things to come and lay them down as we also prepare the path, and set the scene for Palm Sunday.

Holy God,
we give thanks that Jesus’ journey
into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday
paves the way for us to have new life.

We remember all who waved palm branches (place palms)
or laid an outer garment on the ground for Jesus, (lay cloth, coats)

We remember the people oppressed by Rome, looking for a saviour, a warrior
to restore Israel to its former glory,

God, we come humbly into your presence,
asking you to save us.

Hosanna, blessed is the one who comes

in the name of our Lord.

Hear the good news:
Blessed is the one who comes
in the name of our God!

God’s word of healing grace and peace is poured out for us all:
Our sins are forgiven.

Thanks be to God
