September and October were busy months for the JNC and the process of calling a new Minister of the Word. The Profile (which describes BUC and what we are looking for in a Minister) was completed and presented to Church Council at its September meeting. Following approval of the Profile by Church Council, it was considered and approved by the Presbytery Pastoral Relations Committee at their meeting on October 3rd.  Members of the JNC attended both these meetings to present the document and respond to questions. The Synod Placements Committee considered the Profile at its meeting on October 18th.

Unfortunately, we received no names of Ministers to talk to from the October meeting of Placements. While initially disappointing, it is important to remember that having conversations with Ministers who are not likely to be a ‘good fit’ is not helpful for either BUC or the Minister.   Being patient is best. On a positive note, there are indications from Placements that there are one or two Ministers “coming up”.

There is no meeting of Placements in November (due to Synod meeting), so we will be waiting until December (at least) to receive names of potential Ministers.  In the meantime, there is an opportunity for the congregation to join the JNC and Placements Committee in this discernment process.  If you know of a Minister who you believe could be called to minster at BUC, please contact one of the members of the JNC:  Clare Keogh, Daniel Broadstock, Kath Williams, Natalie Sims, Payam Pourasghar, Kirsty Bennett.

Over these next months, please hold the discernment process in your prayers.  We should expect our time of supply ministry will need to continue well into next year.
