Ian on Leave
Ian will be on leave from 21st October to 5th November.
27th October – We will welcome Kirsten Parris, member of our congregation and ecologist with a passion for frogs, as our preacher.
3rd November – We will welcome Fiona Bottcher, member of our congregation and exit candidate for the Ministry of Deacon as our preacher.Fiona was recently approved for ordination by the Presbytery.Janet Reus-Smit, member of our congregation and retired minister, will preside over Holy Communion.

Pop-up Op Shop
Helen Burnham is hosting another instalment of our famous FUNdraising Op Shops.  It’s time to clear out your wardrobe, cupboards and other places where treasure lurks.  Bring them along and place them neatly in the Tower Room (near where taper lighting happens during worship).  Helen will sort them and display them ready for you to purchase other people’s treasures.  It’s all happening for three Sundays – 20th, 27th October and 3rd November.  We’re FUNdraising for the CYYA grounds beautification project(s).

Olive Pips Playgroup
Our next gathering of pre-schoolers and parents will take place on Saturday 26th October, from 9:30am at the Church. Please bring some food to share, and one or two of your favourite books for story-time. RSVP to Dave would be handy (0417 310 128).

All Saints Day & Holy Communion
On Sunday 3rd November we will be acknowledging All Saints Day during worship.  There will be an opportunity to remember and celebrate the saints in your life by placing a photo or special object on a shared installation.  We will gather around this remembrance of these special people in our celebration of Holy Communion.  If you have any questions please call Saide Cameron, 0407 096 743.

Nominations for the role of Elder and member of the Church Council will be called from the beginning of November.   Full details and nomination forms will be available next week.

Climate Action News

Climate Action Group
The BUC Climate Action group is inviting members of the congregation of all ages to join and help lead this group. The next meeting will be after worship on Sunday 20th October as the group considers why we need to declare a Climate Emergency and what this might mean for our properties and lifestyle at Brunswick Uniting.  If you would like to join please contact Richard on richarn50@gmail.com or mobile 0407796429.

Film night 2040
Camilla Kasker and Tim Budge, from the Climate Action Group at Brunswick Uniting Church, will be hosting a film night on Thursday 31st October, and screening the film 2040, directed by Damon Gameau, who also directed That Sugar Film (2014). This is a hopeful and inspiring vision of solutions to turn around climate change, using our available resources.

  • Food and drinks will be available from 7pm (more details on menu to come). The film will start at 7:30pm and run for 90 minutes.
  • Tickets are free/by donation, but please RSVP for catering purposes. (But don’t worry if you change your mind to come last minute!)

Environmental Film Festival Australia
The Environment Film Festival Australia is more than just a film festival, but is a catalyst for change. It is running at Cinema Nova and other cinemas in the city and inner north from Thursday 24 October to Friday 1 November, see full program for details of the wide variety local and international films being screened.
