Worship 6/8, Pentecost 10

Kirsty Bennett welcomed us to worship on 6th August.  We reflected on Jacob’s wrestle with God, and the feeding of the five thousand. We celebrated Holy Communion.  Not only in the sacrament of communion, but as we reflect on feeding and being fed, on the bread and wine, and the loaves and fishes. We commissioned and blessed our elected Elders.

Prayers of Adoration & Confession

Watch or 7:34

Eat this bread, drink this cup,
come to him and never be hungry.
Eat this bread, drink this cup,
trust in him and you will not thirst.

God of Jacob,
Who wrestles with us and blesses us:
You sent your Son among us
to give us life and love
and show us how to live.

Jesus of compassion
Who feeds the five thousand:
You feed us and offer us nourishment
in bread and wine
and make us whole.

Sprit of life
Who moves among us:
You see possibilities
where it would be easy to be overwhelmed
and you give us hope.

Eat this bread, drink this cup…

Forgive us
When we do not live in your way.
Forgive us
When we do not  offer compassion,
Forgive us
When we do not trust in your hope.

Eat this bread, drink this cup…

Word of Grace

Siblings in Christ,
Jesus welcomes us.
Even when he is tired and weary
he offers us compassion and feeds us.
And so we know that in Christ, through Christ and because of Christ,
Our sin is forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the people

Watch or 48:53

As we prepare to share Holy Communion, spiritual sustenance for our desert journey, let’s open our hearts in prayer for the world. We begin by keeping silence together – a silence during which I invite you to hold the concerns of your heart before the compassionate healing love of the divine. Hold people in need, nations at war, the crying earth and all its creatures. Hold those who are struggling in body and soul, those seeking identity purpose and belonging, those crying out in grief, those longing for justice. Hold Christ’s people as we seek to live his wounded way of gracious prophetic love. Let’s hold all this in silence, praying for peace, justice, hope, and healing. Then we will conclude our prayer in song.

SILENCE

Lord, listen to Your children praying,
Lord, send Your spirit in this place;
Lord, listen to Your children praying,
Send us love, send us pow’r, send us grace.
