With the Victorian election fast approaching, there’s so much at stake for First Nations communities and our rights.
Hundreds of people across the state have already pledged to step up and volunteer: to defend Treaty, fight racism and build momentum for First Nations justice this election.
Now, it’s time to come together, build our skills and scale up our collective action.
Will you join the Together for Treaty volunteer leadership training on Saturday 8 August in Naarm? Save the date and express your interest here!
- What: Together for Treaty volunteer training day
- When: Saturday 8 August from 10am-4pm
- Where: Hawthorn, Melbourne (location to be shared on confirmation)
- Who: First Nations people and allies keen to build the skills, confidence and community to defend and celebrate Treaty ahead of the Victorian election.
We have been part of incredible celebrations, as the first Treaty with First Nations people comes to life in Victoria.
But now, Opposition Leader Jess Wilson wants to tear up the Treaty and drag us backwards if elected this November. It’s a devastating betrayal of Aboriginal communities who have advocated for decades, plus an abandonment of years of bipartisan support for Treaty.
We know most Victorians want our governments to focus on the big issues, like healthcare and affordable housing, not distract us with attacks on something Aboriginal communities have worked so hard for.
If our communities stand together with loud, proud support for Treaty, we can show Jess Wilson and the Liberal National Parties that real leadership means moving forward together through Treaty, truth and healing.
Every action and conversation makes an impact. That’s why we’re bringing together volunteers from across Naarm and beyond to get ready for the final sprint to election day.
During this training day, you’ll be able to:
- Deep-dive on our election strategy, give feedback, share ideas and make practical plans for action in your area
- Get the training and fresh materials to be part of high-impact actions like doorknocking, letterboxing, market stalls, town hall forums and more
- Connect with like-minded people from your electorate and across the state
- Hear the results from our latest messaging research, ask questions and practice having persuasive conversations that can push back against far-right racism
Express interest now and save the date for August 8th!
P.S. The training day will include a range of workshops and resources to choose from, so there’ll be something for everyone: whether you’re an experienced volunteer or new to the movement. You can let us know what you’d like to get out of the training when you express interest here.
