Cath James welcomed us to worship on 30th August . We continued to reflect on who Jesus is and the call to the journey of discipleship. And we also reflected on Moses’ call by God and how God calls all of us. Our worship was led by Cath with members of our student houses.

God of flame and burning bush
You meet with us on holy ground
And call us by name
Ever becoming known to us.
Christ, who calls us to follow
We adore you
Spirit who sends us, leads us, fills us
We worship you.
And yet we set our minds on human things
We cling to our lives when you call us to lose them for you sake
We hide the fear instead of letting your love soften it
Forgive us, God who calls us
Turn us, that we might follow you

Prayers of the people

Good morning.
In today’s prayer, we will be focussing on our discipleship and the positive impact that we can make in the world through our faith, compassion and understanding. At the conclusion of the prayers, I will take the Christ candle to the chapel space, where you are invited to light a taper at the end of the service.
Let us pray:
Loving and gracious God,
we gather together as your people,
grateful for the gift of life,
for your presence with us,
and for the invitation to follow your Word
who is the living Spirit, Christ Jesus.
We pray for your Church throughout the world.
Give us courage to be faithful disciples;
not simply people who hear the words of Jesus,
but people who live them.
Help us to follow where Christ leads,
even when the path is difficult.
Give us humility to put aside our own wants
when the needs of others call us.
Make us willing to listen rather than speak,
and to give rather than hold tightly to what we have.
We pray for our local community
and for all those whose lives are difficult or uncertain.
We remember people who are lonely, grieving, anxious,
struggling financially, unwell, or carrying burdens
that others cannot see.
May we recognize Christ in those we encounter.
Open our eyes to opportunities to serve,
our hearts to compassion,
and our hands to practical acts of love.
Where there is injustice, make us courageous.
Where there is division, make us peacemakers.
Where there is despair, help us bring hope.
We pray for those who carry heavy burdens today:
for people living through war and displacement,
for refugees and those seeking a safe home,
for communities affected by disaster,
and for all who suffer because of violence, poverty or oppression.
We pray especially for those whose suffering
has become invisible because it has gone on for so long.
May we, your followers, be people
who do not turn away from suffering,
but walk alongside those who are hurting.
God of justice and peace, compassion and discipleship, in your name we pray.
