Saide Cameron welcomed us to worship on 16th August. We welcomed Dan Broadstock as our preacher. Dan is a former member of our congregation, a regular preacher and is a chaplain at Penleigh-Essendon Grammar, a Uniting Church school. Responding to the readings from Genesis and Romans Dan explored peace and reconciliation also drawing on his family’s recent trip to Northern Ireland.

As God’s people here in this place, living together in unity
committed to working together for peace and reconciliation,
we can be confident, that in Jesus’ name

Through our lives and by our prayers
Your Kingdom come
God of possibilities, Jesus who calls us to follow, Spirit of life:
We live in the world, a world which is full of beauty, promise, creativity and joy.
It is also a world where there is pain, conflict, violence and destruction.
We hold before you
– Palestinians living in the West Bank, who live under threat from Israeli settlers
and especially the people in the village of Qusra,
who have been under siege for two weeks with no power and water
-Ukrainians who continue to fight to save their land,
as Russia brings in more North Koreans soldiers to fight for them
-Iranians who live under threat of bombardment from the USA
and oppression from their own government
We pray for peace and justice.
Through our lives and by our prayers
Your Kingdom come
We live in a world where bush fires rage and cause destruction in Europe,
where natural disasters cause devastation and human actions damage the planet.
A world where people place themselves in danger to volunteer
to help in the face of crises, where people advocate for creatures who do not speak.
We hold before you
-the people of Spain and France as they continue to face bushfires
-the people of Choco, Cali, Pereira and many other villages and towns in Colombia
as they grieve the loss of their loved ones, their homes and livelihoods
-our birds who are facing the spread of the deadly H5N1 avian influenza
-the creatures who are losing habitat because of the way humans live
We pray for life, for nurture and nourishment.

We live as part of the Uniting Church,
here at BUC,
in the Presbytery of Port Phillip West,
In the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.
We live as part of the local churches of Brunswick,
As a part of the many different faith communities of Brunswick.
We pray for wisdom and leadership in these communities.
Through our lives and by our prayers
Your Kingdom come
We live in community,
In this faith community, and as part of our local neighbourhoods.
We hold before you people who face discrimination,
Who are subjected to racism
Who feel excluded
Who do not feel accepted
Who are ill
Who are uncertain
Who do not know love.
We pray for love and generosity for all, so that everyone may feel welcome and included.
