Prayer of Adoration

From Hosanna, TIS 724:

Hosanna, hosanna,
hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna, hosanna,
hosanna in the highest!
Lord we lift up your name
with hearts full of praise.
Be exalted, O Lord my God!
Hosanna in the highest!

Glory, glory, glory to the King of kings!
Glory, glory, glory to the King of kings!
Lord we lift up your name
with hearts full of praise.
Be exalted, O Lord my God!
Glory to the King of kings!

Prayer of Confession

In the light of the love that is God,
let’s open our hearts in confession.

For the crowd in Jerusalem,
the cry of Hosanna will turn to Crucify.
Jesus does not meet their hopeful expectations
of a conquering king
and their faith falls violently away.

In the silence let us bring to God
the frailty of our own living and loving,
praying that we may be given the grace
to meet God as God is
and to follow Christ wherever he leads.

Forgive your people,
forgive the world,
make us a new creation of peace in Christ.

Amen

This is the best of all:
when we are empty, God fills us;
when we are disheartened, God is compassionate;
when we are wounded, God brings healing;
when we are confess our sin, God forgives.
In Christ, through Christ and because of Christ,
our sin is forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the people

Jesus on the road,
lead us to justice and peace.
Jesus donkey rider,
enter in through the gates of our hearts.
Jesus weeping over the city,
wash the world with your tears.

Jesus angry in the temple,
clear away all that inhibits loving.

Jesus guest and host at the table,
gather all refuge seekers to your feast.
Jesus bread of life,
feed the hungry.
Jesus cup of blessing,
pour out your compassion for the needy.

Jesus praying in the garden,
uphold the bereaved.
Jesus betrayed,
heal our violent world.
Jesus unjustly tried,
liberate the oppressed.
Jesus denied by friends,
forgive us for we don’t know what we are doing.
Jesus dying on the cross,
remember us.
Jesus waiting in the tomb,
remember us.
Christ risen from the dead,
bring us to life in you.
bring the earth to peace in you,
bring creation to fulfilment in you.

Amen.
