Lent 3 – Listening from the place of Resurrection

Prayers of Invocation and Adoration

We are in the temple of creation beyond these walls.
And we are the temple of Christ’s body
within these walls and around the world. Let us pray.

Breathe deep in love and awe.
Breathe to blow away all that comes between us
and the deep loving heart of the divine.
Breath to clear within a place of spirit and truth,
of freedom and praise.

Breathe in love, and breathe out praise
for the mysterious one Jesus called Abba, Father,
the Source of all love and all living,
the object of all our worship …

Holy God, blessed One, Mother of Creation,
Source of life, we adore you.

Breathe in love, and breathe out praise
for the beloved Son himself,
who cleanses the temple of our lives
by the all-consuming hunger of his passion…

Holy God, blessed One, Son of Love, feeder of the world,
healer of the broken, liberator of the oppressed, we adore you.

Breathe in love, and breathe out praise for the Holy Spirit,
who makes our bodies living temples of prayer…

Holy God, blessed One, Spirit of peace,
Fire of justice, Winged flight of hope,
we adore you.

Holy God, blessed One, hear our prayer.
Come to us today and fill this time of worship
with the presence of your love, grace and joy.
Amen.

Prayer of Confession

As we approach the table of Christ
let us confess the brokenness of the world,
let us hold before the God of gracious love,
the human failure to live as creatures of that love.

Jenny Gordon writes:

disturber of religion come
and turn the tables
in your place
where market mentality
permeates

where greed and trade
sit quite at ease
blind to the face
of neighbour’s need

where worship rests in bricks and stone
and our safe, sanitised, domestic faith
feels right at home
and coloured windows frame
the world
in filtered light
so we will not take fright

come
let your body – single sacred site
broken, bruised and raised
become the altar of our praise

take off our shoes

Let us sing for the divine mercy that is love…
Lamb of God, Richard Bruxvoort-Colligan

  1. O Christ, Lamb of God,
    sharing our weakness, our weakness,
    have mercy, have mercy
  2. O Christ, Lamb of God,
    bearing our failings, our failings,
    have mercy, have mercy.
  3. O Christ, Lamb of God,
    sharing our story, our story,
Oh grant us, grant us your peace.
Oh grant us, grant us your peace. Amen

Hear our prayer,
forgive and heal this broken world,
forgive and heal the brokenness in us,
forgive and heal and make of us a new creation. Amen.

This is the best of all:
when we are empty, God fills us;
when we are disheartened, God is compassionate;
when we are wounded, God brings healing;
when we confess our failure to love, God forgives. [UIW2]

In Christ, through Christ and because of Christ,
the sin of the world, our sin, is forgiven.
Thanks be to God!

Prayers of the People

God, We are on our way to Pesach, Passover,
walking with Jesus, the disturber of religion,
destroyer of the wisdom of the wise of this world,
on his way ultimately to offer himself in love.

God hold us, the Church, the community,
the world in that love & wisdom.
Oh Jesus we pray for your love……we
Pause to Breathe it in….. , to Breathe it out…….
to everyone around us, to everyone in our neighbourhood;
in our city, our country, and throughout the world,
the waves of Jesus love spreading
from our heart to everyone,
to all beings everywhere.

We cry out God – where are you, the one who is wise?
Who can make foolish the wisdom of the world?
May they put down their foolish sale of guns,
their earth destroying mining,
their short-sighted destruction of humans,
of animals, of nature… …..

We pray that all may see & feel that God’s foolishness
is wiser than human wisdom,
and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength,
as poured out through Jesus in his love for our humanity.

Love and heal the brokenness in us.
Love and heal this broken world
Amen
