Sunday Prayers 27/1

Prayers of Adoration & Confession

Dear Lord Jesus,
Trail over us the wide hem of your garment
May your peace and healing trickle down
through the great canopy of the world.

Have mercy when difference becomes division
Where diversity melts into the haze of exclusion,
hatred, and self-righteousness.

Grant to us the humility to find wisdom where we do not expect to.
Keep us from the dangerous errors of dogmatism and conceit,
and open our minds to voices that speak differently to our own.

Loving God,
How great are the boundaries of your kingdom,
that they enclose all the peoples of the world.
Bind us ever closer in loving unity.
For before your gentle eyes there are no slave and free,
no man and woman, no Jew and gentile.
In the great halls of your mercy there are no border lines of nation or ethnicity.
No partiality of gender, or culture, sexuality, or ability.

Join us together as the body of Christ
Fashioned for purpose, made for unity,
And direct us to the work of erasing division,
Overcoming disharmony, healing brokenness,
And loving one another, as you have loved us.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.

Friends, this is the good news: that God in her great love has gathered us in as a redeemed people, bound together in grace and freedom. That in Christ, through Christ, and because of Christ, our sin is forgiven.

Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the people

Let us pray:

We hold in our hands and our hearts people in need…

Embrace them in your love, Dear Jesus,
and help us to live out that love as your body.
Bring healing, bring comfort.

We hold in our hands and our hearts peoples and nations in need…

Embrace them in your love, Dear Jesus,
and help us to live out that love as your body.
Bring peace, bring plenty.

We hold in our hands and our hearts our own nation Australia…

Embrace them in your love, Dear Jesus,
and help us to live out that love as your body.
Bring justice, bring reconciliation.

We hold in our hands and our hearts, the earth and all its creatures…

Embrace them in your love, Dear Jesus,
and help us to live out that love as your body.
Bring harmony, bring balance.

We hold in our hands and our hearts, your body in the world…

Embrace us in your love, Dear Jesus,
and help us to live out that love as your body.
Bring unity, nurture diversity.

About the Author:

The worship committee meets monthly to think, talk and pray about the worship that we offer as a community. Worship is at the heart or centre of who we are. It is where we do the thing that makes us distinctive. Unlike just another club, we worship God. It is a time for rediscovering our focus as a community, resting, listening and focussing on God, reorienting ourselves for the week.
