Prayers of Adoration & Confession

God, protector of the poor and liberator of the captive
Even when we go out in sorrow and despair,
You bring us home with joy,
Celebrating your faithfulness to all generations.

Christ Jesus, child who is to come,
You give to us seeds of hope,
And courage to plant in barren soil,
With the conviction that joy will come.

Holy Spirit, you never leave us,
You bring nourishing rain, and warm sunshine,
Turning our smallest efforts to a joyful harvest,
Giving us enough to celebrate and to share with others.

Sisters and Brothers, the truth of Advent is this:
God comes to us, bringing healing and joy to the world.
In Christ, through Christ, and because of Christ, our sin is forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the people

Our God Joy has seemed hard to find in 2020.
We have cried & wept as the world has been on the descent,
the riverbeds in our hearts & land are dry
the fires leap in your pristine terrains.

We cry with the ancestors for lost dreaming,
we cry for those sick or gone from within our church
we see endless sickness as those with power are joyless and do not reap with   of joy.
O God, we pray for us & these in our community sick & crying,
grappling with joyless parched lives without a job, finances ruined, hurt from violence and in despair.
May they know your Joy O God.
We pray for the power to step into that joy offering it to others.
Let us bring it to them, through your call to us, O God

Joy is coming through Oh God ….
We start to hear the calmed breathing,
a friend gone but their laughing story shared,
the rain drop, the joyous water moving in dance,
the joy of zero days,
joy as justice & change flows in the  lands of the USA,
the possibility of  human wonder in vaccines,
the wondrous birthing of the Great barrier reef,
the houses being built for the homeless ……
Thank you Oh  God  – you have given us joy   just because you can

As your Church God give us that Joy through working in cooperation,
showing help to neighbours & community in the sheer joy of justice, of doing the right thing.

You have given us glimpses of Zion,
O God let us laugh, dream, dance, take joy to the world as a church …  reaping.
The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy’.
And so be it, amen
