Prayers of Adoration

Watch or 7:30

Our prayer of Adoration today is Psalm 118. We sing the hymn Hosanna interspersed through it.

Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29

O give thanks to the HOLY ONE, who is good;
whose steadfast love endures forever!
Let Israel say, “God’s steadfast love endures forever.”

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna, Hosanna,
Hosanna in the highest!

Lord we lift up Your name
with hearts full of praise
Be exalted oh Lord my God!
Hosanna in the highest!

Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them
and give thanks to the HOLY ONE.
This is the gate of God; the righteous shall enter through it.
I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
This is God’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that our God has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Glory, Glory
Glory to the King of Kings!
Glory, Glory,
Glory to the King of Kings!

Lord we lift up Your name
with hearts full of praise
Be exalted oh Lord my God!
Glory to the King of Kings!

Hosanna, save us, we beseech you, O GOD!
Hosanna, give us success!
We bless you from the house of the HOLY ONE.
The HOLY ONE is God, and has given us light.
O give thanks to the HOLY ONE, who is good;
whose steadfast love endures forever!

Hosanna, Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna, Hosanna,
Hosanna in the highest!

Lord we lift up Your name
with hearts full of praise
Be exalted oh Lord my God!
Hosanna in the highest!

Prayers of Confession

Watch or 11:20

During the 5 Sundays of Lent so far we have been looking through the eyes of Jesus at the events of his passion. These symbols represent the things we have seen.

Let us pray in confession guided by these symbols.

Breathe into confession…

Image 1: Olive branch for Jesus prayer on the Mount of Olives
Jesus strengthen us to be alert in our prayer with you.

Image 2: Stones representing the hard place of Peter’s denial of Jesus
Jesus heal the frailty of our faith.

Image 3: Scales of Justice reminding us of the terrible miscarriage of justice
as Jesus is tried before Pilate and Herod.
Jesus pour out your spirit of liberation amidst the injustices of our world.

Image 4: Salt for the tears of the women who weep as Jesus is led away to die.
Jesus comfort us in our grief, and lead on the way of the cross.

Image 5: Cross where Jesus is mocked except by the repentant criminal
crucified beside him who joins Jesus in Paradise.
Jesus remember us, when you come into your kingdom. Amen

Word of Grace:
Blessed is the one who comes
in the name of our God!

Hear his word of healing grace and peace to us all:
Your sin is forgiven.

Prayers of the people

Watch or 1:04:06

Reader 1: Today, as we remember Christ who rode into Jerusalem
on a donkey rather than a war-horse,
We pray for peace between nations,
and an end to the violence of war throughout the world.

Reader 2: Today, as we gather as the people of Brunswick,
We pray to see new ways to help the poor and lonely in our area,
and for safety for all who live and visit here.

Reader 1: Today, as we remember the way Jesus responded those who challenged him,
We pray for all those who work for truth and justice in our world today.

Reader 2: Today, as we gather with our neighbouring churches,
We pray for continued co-operation between Christian communities,
and an end to religious intolerance.

Reader 1: Today, as we look towards the story of Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion,
We pray for those who face unfair trial, and those unjustly imprisoned,
including political prisoners, refugees and asylum seekers.

Reader 2: Today, as we gather as people who are feeling well,
We pray for those who are at home or in hospital due to sickness
or to vulnerability, and for those who care for them.

Reader 1: Today, as we look towards Christ’s resurrection from the dead,
We pray with hope for a world that is renewed and made whole.

Reader 2: In the name of Christ, bringer of peace and salvation,

Amen
