A few weeks ago Ian was contacted by an organizer of a Rainbow Family Day that was going to be held in Preston for families in Darebin and the surrounding areas on  Sunday 17th September.  As Ian was going to be away he asked if I would be happy to take on the organizational part for the church.

Supported by the CY&YA committee I decided to make a stall where children could decorate cupcakes with rainbow icing and sprinkles. At the stall we had the BUC banner on display and a number of people commented how great it was to see a church presence there! Over 400 cupcakes were decorated and the environment with the approximately 1500 people who attended was incredible.

Currently, it’s not a particularly easy time to be someone who is same-sex attracted and the event operated with the goal of having a day where the environment would be inclusive and welcoming. It was such a great thing to be a part of – and I loved that I could do so as not only a part of my role with the church but as a member of our community.
