Our Mission
To follow in the way of Christ in seeking justice and wholeness in our own lives and in the world. Olive Way participates in this mission by caring for people as whole persons, recognising that physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs are connected and that all deserve care and dignity. Through hospitality, compassion and community, Olive Way seeks to offer a glimpse of God’s Kingdom.

Our Values

Inclusion: Hospitality and community are built on mutual respect. We seek to offer this to all people regardless of race, faith background, sexual orientation, political persuasion, or social status. All are welcome.

Hospitality: We welcome each person with dignity and care, seeking to create a safe, respectful and hospitable environment where all can participate, while maintaining boundaries that protect the wellbeing of everyone.

Justice: We value generosity, fairness and dignity. We offer care without expectation of return, seeking the wellbeing of each person who comes through our door, and connecting people with support where possible and appropriate.

Compassion: We recognise our shared humanity and respond to one another with kindness, patience and care. We listen with empathy, withhold judgement, speak thoughtfully, and seek to be truthful in what we say.

Zero Waste: We aim to minimise waste by reducing what we use and discard, reducing our impact on the environment.

About us
Situated at the crossroads of a busy and vibrant neighbourhood, Olive Way began in 2007 as a place of hospitality and community. In a setting shaped by the pursuit of financial capital, members of Brunswick Uniting Church recognised that many people were being left behind by the fast-paced consumer economy all around us. In response, Olive Way was established as a grassroots outreach, offering welcome and hospitality to those at risk of alienation and exclusion.

Olive Way is supported by a part-time Pastor and Operations Coordinator and a team of amazing and faithful volunteers. By ‘Christ-shaped’ we mean that our vision is shaped by how we understand Christ’s life and his actions in the world, how he moved among and related with people of all walks of life, including those who were not considered ‘acceptable’ by his own community. Olive Way is supported by volunteers who also come from all walks of life, and who also love to extend hospitality, compassion, and welcome people into community. We welcome anyone who shares a love of these regardless of what they believe, or how life has shaped them.
