After a long wait and a difficult lockdown period last year Olive Way has finally fired up again in 2021. It will be a different look at least for the first part of the year whilst we continue to contain the spread of COVID 19 in the state. This will mean that we will be meeting the church hall so that we are able spread out and maintain social distancing as much as we can, entry will be via the Sydney Rd entrance (look for the sandwich board) and exiting via the back yard door onto Merri St. During this time we will be only be offering fresh sandwiches with fruit and veg that will be pre-packed so that people have the option of taking it away, as well as reducing the potential for cross-contamination (served in compostable containers).
Please note we will be keeping Olive Way to one day per week (Wednesday from 10am-1:30pm) for the first few weeks of 2021, and expanding to the Tuesday and Thursdays as volunteers become available to help with those times. We will not be offering a hot lunch until mid-Feb, where we will be shifting our usual Wednesday meal time to a Tuesday. Lunches will continue to be offered at Brunswick Salvos (256 Albert St) on Mon-Wed, Fridays, and Sundays at 12pm. More information on the Olive Way lunches will be provided in the coming weeks.
Our satellite programs, such as Olive Arts and Artstop will start back on Wednesday 3rd and Tuesday 16th February, respectively whilst other activities will begin as the personnel and resources become available. Check back here in the coming weeks for more information.
As always our emphasis is on hospitality and welcome. For us, opening is about more than offering food, it is about providing a place where people are able to find a sense of community, support, fun, and fellowship. Whilst COVID has forced us apart we hope we are able to find new ways of bringing people together in the ’new normal’.
Peter, Olive Way Pastor
