Refugee Week
We hosted an inspiring exhibition during Refugee Week, 6th-23rd June.  If you were unable to view the artworks or just want to have another look please see the post on our website:  Refugee Week 2019.

New subscribers welcome to With Love to the World – Are you interested in having a quarterly daily devotion guide that provides a reflection on the next Sunday’s lectionary?  Faye Findlay will be collecting $10 from anyone interested in a remaining two quarterly copies due out in August and November. Please speak to Faye on one of the next three Sundays. Additional orders must be made by Sunday 14th July. Thanks, Faye

Worship on the 5th Sunday
On 30th June our worship will provide a space for a different way of reflecting and engaging with the Word.  We will celebrate Holy Communion.

Plastic Free July
The Justice & Mission committee invites you to
 join the challenge to live with less plastic in July.

Worship on 7th July
Ian will be participating in the Synod meeting and so will not be preaching on this Sunday.  The worship committee will be using the Synod Worship Resource for worship on 7th July.  We will welcome Janet Reus-Smit to preside over Holy Communion.  Janet is a member of our congregation and retired UCA minister.

Lunch time
Have you been to Cafe Marcella just up the road from the church?  If not – now’s your chance.  The Community Team invites you to come along for lunch after worship on Sunday 7th July.  Average meal cost is $15-20.  Sign up at worship or let Saide know you are planning to come along, saide.cameron@bigpond.com

Worship Workshop Series
What? Why? How? Where? When?
Do you ever ask these questions about worship? Do you wonder where the shape of our liturgy comes from or how our liturgists and prayers leaders write the prayers offered each week?  Are you interested in exploring the theology and traditions of worship?  If your answer is yes to even one of these questions then please feel very welcome to join the worship committee for an engaging, interactive, hands on series of workshops in June and July.

Safe Church Contact Person
Jane Allardice will fill in for Helen Rowe as the Safe Church contact person.  Brunswick Uniting Church has a process for following up any concerns raised about the safety of our children. Please contact Jane in person or by telephone at 0419 385 544.

Synod 2019
The 2019 Synod meeting will be held from 5-9 July at Box Hill Town Hall.  Opening worship of the Synod meeting will commence 7.30pm, 5th July, at St Michael’s Uniting Church, corner Russell and Collins St and will include the induction of our new Moderator, Rev Denise Liersch. Supper will be enjoyed at The Scot’s Church.  Visit the Synod website for more information.

Slow Stitching
Slow Stitching is the first workshop in ‘The Artist and the Activist: Galvanising Grief, Growing in Action’, to be offered on the Swell Centre, Hawthorn, Tuesday 9th July, 10am-4pm.  Find out more.

Pilgrimage to Nauiyu 12-16th of August 2019
Expressions of interest
are sought from people who would like to spend time in Nauiyu, an Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory near Daly River. The intention of the pilgrimage is to listen and learn from Elders and community members about Aboriginal culture and spirituality and in particular, the practice of Dadirri.  This is a small group journey organised by The Australian Christian Meditation Community.

Safe Church Training
St. John’s Uniting Church, Essendon, is holding two sessions of Safe Church Training soon.
– Wednesday 17th July at 6:30pm.
– Sunday 21st July at 11:30am.
Everyone who holds a Working With Children Check card is required to do initial training and then a refresher every three years. Unsure if you are due for a refresher?  Check with Claire Foley or Helen Rowe.
Please register your interest in the Essendon sessions with Helen Rowe asap so we can let the organizers know.

Climate Action
Are you called to become involved in responding to climate change?

  • #NoFaithInCoal – the ARRCC organised over 150 faith leaders to send an open Letter to the Prime Minister this week urging the government to:
    • Stopping the proposed Adani coal mine
    • Committing to no new coal or gas projects in Australia
    • Moving to 100% renewable energy by the year 2030

  • Stop Adani Moreland – next fortnightly meeting is Monday 8th July at 6:30 pm East Coburg Community House, 32 Nicholson Street, Coburg.
  • GreenFaith ARRCC meeting in Melbourne is 5.30 pm Sunday 21st July at St Philip’s Anglican Church, 146 Hoddle Street, Collingwood.
