Thank you Helen
Church Council would like to advise that it has accepted a request from Helen Rowe to step back from the role of Co-Chair of Church Council from February 2021. Helen continues as a member of the Council, COVID Reference Group and Discipleship and Education Committee. The Co-Chair model was introduced in 2020 to recognise the contribution of both women and men in this leadership role and to share the responsibilities of the role. James Balsillie will remain as Co-Chair until the AGM on 6th June 2021. Church Council is now discerning a suitable Elder to take on the open Co-Chair position with James until this time.
Members of Brunswick Uniting will be very aware of the time and energy Helen put into her role as Co-Chair, working with James Balsillie; and with all of BUC during a most difficult year. Between Church Council and the COVID Reference Group, Helen has been working constantly to support the Church in our desire to remain as accessible to people as possible – during Ian’s absence at the beginning of the year; lockdowns 1 and 2; and the introduction of COVID safe worship.
It is simply impossible to estimate just how much of Helen’s time and devotion to pastoral, procedural and safety issues has been given to these roles.
Church Council is deeply indebted to the work that Helen has done in this role for the last 12 months and we are very grateful that she will continue on Council until the next election.
James Balsillie, Co-Chair of Church Council

Please visit, and consider joining, the BUC “Walking Together” Facebook group. (As in “Walking together as First and Second Peoples”, from the UCA Vic-Tas mission statement.)
You don’t need to be a member of the group that meets under the same name in order to join the FB group. The purpose of the FB group is to widen the circle of conversation & reflection, and to be an ongoing forum for news, announcements and insights that are relevant to our discipleship alongside Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.
