December 2019 & January 2020 roster
If you have ever thought about joining the rosters that support the work of worship now is the time.  A number of the regular roster participants will be on leave and/or have other commitments over these two months.   Please consider offering to participate, particularly if you want to learn how to operate the sound system and laptop or offer to bring flowers.  Here is the current roster to give you an idea of all the possibilities.  If you are a regular participant please respond to the email sent out earlier this week.

Advent & Christmas choir
If you love to sing, love to sing in a choir and love to sing during Advent and Christmas this is your opportunity.  Contact Elaine Potter, 0434 671 109‬, to join the choir.  You can participate as much as you are able, ie you don’t have to be able to sing at every event.   Rehearsal dates will be set soon.

Exploring faith / confirmation sessions:
For those aged 15 to 22, Ian is offering some excellent pizza nights, exploring the Christian faith, asking the big questions and getting a clearer understanding of Christ Emmanuel – God with us. It may lead you to consider confirmation. 6:30pm on Thursday 21st November, 28 November and December 5 at the Manse: 60 Blyth St, Brunswick. Contact Ian directly: iferguson@icloud.com

LGBTIQ Solidarity Service
A time of worship on Sunday 24th November to celebrate the diverse expressions of gender and sexuality in our congregation, and in particular to stand in solidarity with our LGBTIQ members.  More details here.  This is a normal Sunday morning service to which everyone is welcome. Some of our LGBTIQ identifying members will participate through poetry, song and reflection.

Congregational Meeting and Lunch
Everyone is invited to stay on after worship for our Congregational Meeting & Lunch on Sunday 24th November.  The agenda will include the Election of Elders and a presentation of a resolution from the BUC Climate Action Group.  An agenda together with profiles of the nominees for the position of Elder will be distributed on Sunday 17th  November.  Lunch will be provided following the meeting. Offers of fruit platters are very welcome along with assistance for setting up and packing up.  Please email saide.cameron@bigpond.com if you are available to do so.

Act for Peace Christmas Bowl FUNdraising Stalls
Our congregation is a long time supporter of this appeal and one of the big ways we do this is through our FUNraising stalls after worship on Sunday 1st and 8th December.  Find out more:

Mainstream and Margins
Did you attend the Mainstream & Margins workshop in July 2018?  Church Council is interested in receiving some feedback about your experience.  It is particularly relevant now that some time has passed.  We would like to review your lasting impressions.  We would be really grateful if you could reply with answers to the following questions:

  1. Do you still remember what you learnt?
  2. Has your behaviour changed since the workshop?
  3. Do you have any other reflections /ideas that you think may be helpful in ensuring our mindfulness at BUC of “Welcome and inclusion of all”?

Climate Action News

BUC Climate Action group
Members of the congregation of all ages are invited to join and help lead this group which has a prepared a motion, supported by Church Council, for Brunswick Uniting Church to declare a Climate Crisis. In preparation for discussing this motion at the Congregational Meeting and what the Climate Crisis might mean for our properties, lifestyle and the actions we need to take, the BUC Climate Action group will be meeting after worship at 11am on Sunday 17th November in the Youth Hall.  If you would like to join, please contact Richard on richarn50@gmail.com or mobile 0407796429.

Galilee Rising – Step up to Stop Adani
Galilee Rising is a new, volunteer-led organisation that will provide training and resources to empower more Australians to take part in peaceful direct action to stop Adani on the frontlines and in the cities.

  • Check out the new Galilee Rising website and take the pledge to join the movement of people taking brave, peaceful action to stop Adani’s coal mine turbocharging the climate crisis.

Art for the Heart 2020 is open for registration. Creative pieces of any form and medium are welcome as always and the exhibition will be held again this year at The Meat Market Stables exhibition space. Please see the attached flyers for all the information you may need.
