Minding the Olive Way Door

Baptism
We will celebrate the baptism of Jacob Ly during worship on Sunday 16th June.

Morning Tea – Bring a plate
Every now and then we don’t have enough people to provide morning tea.  So on Sunday 16th June you are invited to bring a plate to share for morning tea.  Leave your plate of food (home made or purchased, either is fine) in the hall before worship.  Glenice Cook, Christine Hornby and Gwen Arnold will be your kitchen hosts.  Any questions please contact Saide, 0407 096 743.

Refugee Week
The Justice & Mission Committee is delighted to be hosting an exhibition during Refugee Week.  The exhibition will be launched during worship on 16th June and feature as part of worship on 23rd June.
Everyone is invited to dinner at the Asylum Seeker Welcome Centre to celebrate Refugee Week on Tuesday 18th June.
Join us on World Refugee Day, 20th June for a conversation with Johnny and his sister Miream about Johnny’s new work, 7:30pm in the church.

BUC Cycles
BUC cyclists will be back on the road after a longish break after worship on Sunday 23rd June, leaving at 11:30am for a two hour or so ride along one of Melbourne’s many bike tracks.  Contact Graeme Lawrence, 0408 617 416

Worship Workshop Series
What? Why? How? Where? When?
Do you ever ask these questions about worship? Do you wonder where the shape of our liturgy comes from or how our liturgists and prayers leaders write the prayers offered each week?  Are you interested in exploring the theology and traditions of worship?  If your answer is yes to even one of these questions then please feel very welcome to join the worship committee for an engaging, interactive, hands on series of workshops in June and July.
Three dates – 27th June (see below), 11th and 18th July (more details coming soon)!!!.

Why worship?
A conversation with Stephen Burns, Coordinator of Ministry Studies, Pilgrim Theological College, and Professor of Liturgical and Practical Theology, University of Divinity.
Bring your questions about the ‘whats, whys and hows’ of worship to Brunswick Uniting Church (212 Sydney Rd) from 7:30-9:00 pm on Thursday 27th June.

Pilgrimage to Nauiyu 12-16th of August 2019
Expressions of interest are sought from people who would like to spend time in Nauiyu, an Aboriginal community in the Northern Territory near Daly River. The intention of the pilgrimage is to listen and learn from Elders and community members about Aboriginal culture and spirituality and in particular, the practice of Dadirri.  This is a small group journey organised by The Australian Christian Meditation Community.

Peace Concert
On Sunday June 16th at 1pm, Ascot Vale UCA (60 Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds) we will be hosting a concert by The Castlemaine Peace Choir. 

Sacred Art
On Sunday 16th June, Rev Dr Howard Wallace, will be presenting ‘Sacred Art: Imagining the Word’ as part of our SLOW SPIRITUALITY Series at St John’s Essendon.  You are warmly invited to come along at 5.00pm and also to invite others to join us.

Safe Church Training
St. John’s Uniting Church, Essendon, is holding two sessions of Safe Church Training soon.
– Wednesday 17th July at 6:30pm.
– Sunday 21st July at 11:30am.
Everyone who holds a Working With Children Check card is required to do initial training and then a refresher every three years. Unsure if you are due for a refresher?  Check with Claire Foley or Helen Rowe.

  • Stop Adani Moreland – next fortnightly meeting is Monday 24th June at 6:30 pm East Coburg Community House, 32 Nicholson Street, Coburg.
