Visiting Vilma
Jane visited Vilma on Wednesday.  She is in a private hospital in Coburg for rehab after her surgery.  She is doing well and was her usual sparkly person, interested in what was going on at BUC and around her.  Vilma wanted to say hello to all at BUC.  See the photo here.

Refugee Week
Refugee Week is 14th-20th June.  The theme ‘Celebrating the Year of Welcome’ will be included in worship on 14th June.  A display will be set up in the Tower Room Window next week.

World Wide Knit in Public Day – Yes, it’s ON.
Every second Saturday in June, we have a large fun all-day group in the Hall from the congregation and wider community. Boo-hoo, not this year.  BUT on Saturday 13th June we are running THREE Zoom Knit Along sessions (10am- midday, 1pm-3pm and 3:30pm onward incl Zoom ‘pre-dinner drinks’) hosted by Ann, Natalie and Linda. Links can be found on Olive Pesto FaceBook Group page here

  1. Activity for anytime during the day: the WALK-KNIT-CHAT, where you get out into your neighbourhood, with a ball of wool and a pair of needles, and you report back with a photo to post in our WWKIP album on this site. Knit in a public space, chat with folk (with appropriate social distancing, of course), and have some fun. More info to come.
  2. ZOOM KNIT ALONGS : 10-midday (Ann hosting), 1pm-3pm (Nat hosting) and 3:30-6pm (Linda hosting), finishing with virtual pre-dinner drinks. Email Ann, Natalie and Linda for the zoom links and passwords.
  3. Name for the day: “KREEP-OUT” (knit responsibly, engage publicly). What do you think?

Climate Action News

BUC Climate Crisis Action Plan
After some delays due to Covid-19, Church Council is once again working on BUC’s Climate Action Plan (See our Climate Crisis web page for background and Maxine’s video message for the latest update) which has been circulated via email to members of the congregation for comment. You can get involved by sending your comments on the plan to Shawn Whelan or Maxine Loynd by 19 June 2020.

BUC Climate Action Group – political advocacy and action
More work is required to articulate the details for the fourth commitment in BUC’s Climate Action Plan, so you are invited to join a zoom meeting at 11.30 on Sunday 14 June to help identify a political campaign priority and strategy for 2020 as part of our Climate Action Plan.

Consultation on Synod’s Position on Climate Change
The Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania Justice and International Mission (JIM) Cluster believes there is a need for the Synod to update its position on the urgency of addressing the causes of climate change and the actions that need to be taken in response. The JIM cluster is keen to hear the views of Uniting Church members on what action the Synod should take on climate change. A consultation paper can be downloaded from the website https://justact.org.au/climate-justice-creation/reports/. The page also provides details on how to provide your views on what position the Synod should take on climate change.
