Riding the Waves – Episode 4
Our fourth story features Simone Alesich & Michael Rigby.

Worship
We welcome Geoff Thompson as our preacher on Sunday 11th October, Season of Creation 4.  Geoff is a member of our congregation and Associate Professor – Systematic Theology at the Centre for Theology and Ministry.

Honouring Klaus
On Thursday 8th October we gathered on Zoom to share memories of our time with Klaus, Eva, Felix & Christina when they lived with us in Australia.  Photos and stories were shared.  The YouTube link of the movie compilation will be available soon.

Congratulations
Clara Hall was recently awarded third prize 3rd place in the Victorian Parliament Prize. This is an invitation for students in Year 5 and 6 across Victoria to submit a 90-second speech on something they are passionate about. (Record number of about 750 entries this year, maybe due to covid).  Her topic… Aboriginal deaths in custody as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. She raises some good, and difficult questions. Onya Nangala (that’s her skin name, thanks to aunty Lisa Hall.).   Dave Hall

Pastoral Care Review 2020 – Gathering up Stories
It is 5 years since we introduced our new model and structures for Pastoral Care in our church (Vision Document). Now we are undertaking a review to celebrate what we have achieved in that time and to consider what we have learnt and might want to do differently as a result. We will be gathering up stories from congregation members, talking to committees and groups, and producing a report for consideration.
The review will be supported and resourced by Anne Mallaby, Baptist minister and recently retired academic dean of Whitley College where she lectured in pastoral studies and ministry formation. Anne will work with a small team from within the congregation including Ian, Gwen Arnold and Jane Allardice. We look forward to hearing your stories and experiences over the next couple of months.

Climate Action News

Climate Action Group
The BUC Climate Action Group (CAG) will meet at 5pm on Saturday 17th October via zoom to review BUC’s 2020 climate action advocacy campaign, which was working with Friends of the Earth on a People’s Climate Strategy for Victoria (as part of the BUC Climate Action Plan). Thanks to all those who got involved in this campaign and please provide any feedback prior to the meeting to either Jamie Thom or Richard Arnold.

Make a commitment
CAG invites us all to make a climate crisis commitment.  The commitment is voluntary and all we ask is that people try their best.  See the the Season of Creation 3 presentation for more information.
