Facilitated by Jeanette Acland 7.30 – 9 pm, Wednesday 1st July 2020, online via Zoom

Due to a clash in Zoom meetings we have pushed our June meeting out a week so that it will be on 1st of July. The extra week will come in handy since we have given ourselves two (short) classics to read.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, written by a teenage girl, is a Gothic novel and an early work of science fiction. Victor Frankenstein has made a terrible mistake. In his desperate pursuit to create life, he has creates, then abandons, a monster. Tormented by isolation and loneliness, the once-innocent creature turns to evil and unleashes a campaign of murderous revenge against his creator, Frankenstein.

The Call of the Wild (1903) by Jack London is considered by many to be London’s best. Based on the author’s experiences as a gold prospector in the Canadian wilderness and his ideas about nature and the struggle for existence, it is a tale about unbreakable spirit and the fight for survival in the frozen Alaskan Klondike.

The BUC Book Club is currently at capacity.

However, we are happy to hear from anyone interested in participating in an evening or daytime Book Club with a view to connecting interested parties if there is sufficient interest and someone willing to take on leadership.
