Maggie Somerville’s new album, ‘The Forest Prayed’, is her musical interpretation of 16 of Mary Gilmore’s poems.

Maggie comments ‘Mary Gilmore is featured on our current $10 note and was one of Australia’s most influential figures for many, many years. She was born in 1865 and died in 1962 so lived through the two world wars, the advent of motor cars, and much more in her 97 years. As well as being a successful poet and writer, she was also a great fighter for the disadvantaged and underdogs – women, aborigines, threatened animals, etc. The title track is of course about the forest praying for rain, that eternal Australian prayer.’

Each CD purchased is accompanied by a download link for those who do not have access to a CD player.

The Justice & Mission and BUC Arts Committees are delighted to have this CD launch featured as part of the ‘Let the Earth Speak‘ Exhibition, 27th September-6th October.

Come along and support the launch.  Some of our regular musicians, Catherine Leslie, Daniel Whelan, Shawn Whelan and others, will be participating in the launch.
