Emergence

Creative Arts Exhibition at Brunswick Uniting Church – Emergence

Watch the video

Nearly 2 months ago, when I first wrote to you all it was to share with you the announcement of our upcoming exhibition, Emergence. I spoke of uncertainty, change, and how these have impacted our individual experiences. It is in line with this uncertainty and change that I write to you again to share an update to the exhibition and reaffirm our intent to hold this space for you to share and contribute your artworks in the coming months.

The BUC Arts team acknowledges that in the last few weeks, and perhaps for a few more to come, our community of creatives may have equally found space to create, or barriers to do so, with COVID restrictions limiting access to studios, creative gatherings, and access to supplies. We also acknowledge the amazing work that has already been done to prepare for this event so far, including the above and beyond support to connect and create through online meetings and events, phone calls, and coordination of artwork preparation.

After much deliberation on these points, and to honour both creations already underway as well as works on hold, the BUC Arts Committee has decided to move the dates for the Emergence Exhibition to Friday 5th November – Monday 15th November. It is also our intent to prepare a virtual experience in tandem with an in-person gathering. To prepare for this, the submission form will include a request to virtually display your artworks, and we are also seeking recorded performance pieces for the opening/closing events.  Updated events and deadline details below.

Contributors are invited to submit a new work responding to one or more of these questions:

How have we been inspired by adversity, hope in hard times, during the pandemic?

What has the emergence from restrictions opened up for us,
the new life we feel, the freedoms?

What has awakened within us over the past 18 months?

What has this time unmasked or unveiled for us? What has been revealed?

What are we now inspired to share?
