The United Nations designated 5 June as World Environment Day to highlight that the protection and health of the environment are major issues that affect people’s well-being and economic development worldwide.
The theme for World Environment Day for 2026 is “A Global Call for Climate Action”. The 2026 theme underscores that climate action is not just about reducing carbon emissions—it is about rethinking the systems that power our economies and repairing our relationship with the climate. By doing so, we can secure a safer, healthier, and more just future for all.

While the climate crisis is worsening, ANZ is the only one of Australia’s big four banks to not rule out funding a pipeline that will allow large-scale fracking of the Beetaloo Basin.
The Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory is huge, spanning around 24,000 sq km, and if fracked at scale, this climate bomb would release 1 billion tonnes of CO2 into our atmosphere. I’m sure you’d agree that this is not a good thing.
This is why Rising Tide has a nation-wide campaign to stop ANZ from funding the pipeline. A nation-wide campaign means that you can be a part of it no matter where you are. You may have heard a bit about our campaign already at our Strategy Webinar, via social media or your Hub.

Join us at Brunswick Picture House on Sydney Road for an inspiring monthly film series celebrating First Nations, Pacific and Asian cultural knowledge, storytelling and climate leadership. Each evening will be hosted by one of our inspiring campaign partners and feature a variety of hopeful, solutions-focused films that weave together First Nations and multicultural perspectives and ancient knowledges organised around three key themes:

Each evening ends with ways you can continue to take action for people and planet from signing petitions and building new skills to making donations and planting native grasses and trees together.
Faithful advocacy at the Heart of Climate Action Roundtable

More than 80 people from across the Uniting Church gathered online in late May for the first Assembly Net Zero Emissions Roundtable of 2026, exploring how faith communities can strengthen their advocacy for climate justice.
The roundtable focused on practical ways church members, congregations and communities can engage with wider Uniting Church initiatives and campaigns working towards a more just and sustainable future. Read more HERE.
