Prayers of Adoration & Confession

May we hear your voice within us
  O Emmanuel
May we build your reign among us
  O Emmanuel
  O Emmanuel

God of hope,
You show us how swords can be turned into ploughshares
and you walk with us on the paths of justice.

God of peace,
You bring people together,
Offering wisdom and seeking common ground.

God of joy,
You show that us new life is possible in the most surprising places
and you urge us to leave our fears behind.

God who is love,
Surprising us and holding us when we least expect it.

We adore you.

We have seen the child among us
   O Emmanuel
Christ declares God’s reign here for us
   O Emmanuel

May we hear your voice within us
  O Emmanuel
May we build your reign among us
  O Emmanuel
  O Emmanuel

Forgive us when we lose hope, we do not see the possibilities for new life and for change,
Forgive us when we we focus on our differences, rather than on building peace among us,
Forgive us when we do not hear the cries of the broken earth, when joy is absent,
Forgive us when we do not live in the presence of your love.

We have seen the child among us
   O Emmanuel
Christ declares God’s reign here for us
   O Emmanuel

May we hear your voice within us
  O Emmanuel
May we build your reign among us
  O Emmanuel
  O Emmanuel

Amen

God of hope, peace and joy and love,
You come to us today and every day
And so we can say in confidence:
Our sin is forgiven.
Thanks be to God.

Prayers of the people

God of hope, bringing light out of the darkness,
We pray for the people and places that need your light, especially at this time.

God of peace, breaking bread with all,
We pray for people who have little to eat, and struggle to be welcomed and included.

God of joy, giving new life
We pray for people who are sick, and for people who are grieving, and remember those who are not with us this Christmas.

God of love,
We pray that your love may reach to the furthest places on the earth, enfolding and embracing all creation in your presence.

Christ Child, Saviour, Messiah,
On this day we celebrate your coming,
And get ready to walk with you on the paths of justice.  Amen
