The Leaders' Retreat

The Leaders' Retreat, held in February, brought together the Church Council, the full Ministry Team, and more than a dozen other leaders from BUC. The report gives a snapshot or "flavour" of some of our sessions, and detailed notes from others - including 8 small-group workshops on specific topics that had been nominated by the group at the retreat. Worship during Advent was shaped, in part, by the Advent Sculpture series, inspired and designed by Simone Alesich and created with the Sunday Morning Program groups. Read more.

Blue Christmas

Our Blue Christmas service, held on 14th December, provided the opportunity for reflection & meditation for people who want a space to grieve, remember loved ones who have died, look back over a difficult year, seek peace in troubled times or simply take some time away from the busyness of this particular time of the year. The Christmas Eve Pageant, A call through time was a wonderful celebration of the story of the nativity. Read more.

Christmas Eve

During the 11:30pm Christmas Eve service we heard the nativity of the Christ Child told through Bible readings, prayers and songs. Read more.

We had an absolutely fabulous evening on Saturday 18th June raising money for the Asylum Seeker Welcome Centre. Read more

On World Environment Day, 5th June we invited the congregation to engage with stations for confession, thanksgiving, intercession and response. Read more

Pentecost Sunday

We celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday in a service ablaze with the fiery colours of red, yellow & orange. We made our own Pentecost felt - the 'Fabric of our Community'. Read more.

We presented our first ever Expo during Cafe Morning Tea after worship on Sunday 17th April. Read more

Safe Church Recognition

The Pastoral Care Review Report which is shaped around the themes of Hospitality, Compassion and Community was circulated early in August and formally launched during worship on 24th August. Read more.

School of Discipleship Last month Carlynne and Michael attended the School of Discipleship, 4th - 7th July. Their reflections are available here

Refugee Rally City Square BUC was at the rally in the City Square on Sunday June 21, along with lots of other UCA and non UCA people who showed we care. It was a really good thing to do and I have not forgotten Adam Bandt's words 'I'm going to Canberra this afternoon, and tomorrow, I will sit in parliament and look Scott Morrison and Tony Abbott in the eye. And when I do, I will see you, I will see you all and know that you are there with me'.    Kirsty

The Launch of 'The Songs of Jesse Adams' was celebrated on Thursday 24th July 2014. Readings was packed, speeches were offered and approximately 170 books were sold and signed.

On Pentecost Sunday the Year 7-9 Sunday School led us in the Prayers of the People. We were invited to respond with our own prayers. Read more.

On the weekend of 19th-21st April a group of enthusiastic campers enjoyed an Easter Retreat at Adekate camp site. Read more.

We celebrated the Risen Christ on Easter Day, dedicating our new baptismal font and celebrating the baptisms of Harry and Bruce, read more.

On Good Friday we listened to the saga of Jesus' betrayal, denial, trial, crucifixion and burial and we prayed for the world, read more

On Maundy Thursday we reflected on the new commandment 'love one another', read more.

Holy Week began on Palm Sunday, 24th March. Together we walked the Lenten Path and then set out on our walk to the Ecumenical service at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Read more

Working Together Series
12th, 19th, 26th August, 2nd, 9th September
During this series we were invited to respond to identified themes. The series concluded on 9th September, drawing all 4 themes together and inviting each of us to offer our own personal response and commitment. This was a very exciting opportunity for each of us to reflect on our commitment to the mission & Ministry of the congregation and how we work together as the people of God at Brunswick UC.
